LEAVERE, Ray Merton (Bricky)

May 2, 1927 to August 17, 2019

Peacefully on August 17, 2019, Ray (Bricky) Leavere, passed away at the Welland Hospital in his 93rd year. He was born in Port Colborne, Ontario and resided there all his life. Wherever there were sports you would find Ray, whether it was boxing, bowling, baseball or hockey, he was involved. All the kids knew and loved “Uncle Bricky”, as he operated the skate sharpening concession at the Port Colborne arena for many years. Since his retirement from the St. Lawrence Seaway, he and his wife Marjorie, enjoyed their winters in Florida. In the face of adversity, he strived to accomplish all that he could. He never complained or allowed his disability from polio to hamper him in any way. The words “I can’t” were never part of his vocabulary. A major highlight of his life came in 2013 when he was honoured by being inducted into the Port Colborne hockey Wall of Fame. He is survived by his loving wife Marjorie (Reid), after a marriage of 70 wonderful years. Also left to mourn are seven of their eight children, Terry (Darlene), Larry (Sharon), Peter (Terry), Bonnie (Real), Penny (Ron), Mark (Cathy), Harry and daughter-in-law Vera. Their loving grandpa will be greatly missed by his 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Also sadly left to mourn is his sister Jacqueline Sewell. Ray was predeceased by his son Blaine and his wife Sue, his father Eldon Leavere (1929), infant sister Geraldine, brother Bert and his wife May, his mother Georgina Coyle Bellinger and step father Harry Bellinger, daughter-in-law Mary Ellen, infant granddaughter Courtney Leavere, granddaughter Deanna Leavere, son-inlaw Lee Rankin and his brother-in-law Eric Sewell. Cremation has taken place. Family and friends will be received at the DAVIDSON FUNERAL

HOME, 135 Clarence Street, Port Colborne on Friday, August 23, 2019 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. and Saturday August 24, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m., held in the chapel and conducted by Pastor Lofthouse.
