Hunters Pointe to see water shut off Thursday

Work on new water booster station underway

-

Residents in Welland’s Hunters Pointe area will see a disruption in their water service Thursday due to the ongoing construction of a new water booster pumping station.

In a release, the city said the water in the area will be shut off from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. to allow for the installation of new equipment on to existing infrastructure.

Hunters Pointe subdivision, east of Highway 406, started construction in the late ’90s and residents have complained of low water pressure over the years as the development has grown.

In February of this year, city council voted in favour of awarding a $1.4-million contract to Bronte Construction for construction and installation of the booster station.

The city said, before the water is shut off, residents should fill a bathtub with water that can be used throughout the day, and fill water bottles to ensure a constant water supply to stay hydrated.

“Once the water system has been put back into operation, please open a laundry water tap to purge air and stagnant water out of the system. Allow water to run until it runs clear,” the release said.

During the construction, Daimler Parkway will remain open to through traffic with a traffic control stoplight operating and only one lane of the road open.

“We understand that this work may cause some inconvenience and it is our commitment to ensure that the work is completed and maintained in a safe condition,” the city said.
