OORD, Derek Edward

With profound sadness we announce the death of Derek Edward Oord. Forever cherished son of Eddie and Darlene (Emerson) Oord. Deeply loved by his brother Michael Oord (Brandee) and sister Jennifer Hemauer (Darin). Derek was so proud of his nieces and nephews Seyene, Lauryn, Nolan, Molly, Aubrey, and Jasmine. He is survived by his loving extended family of aunts, uncles, great-aunts, greatuncle­s, cousins, and his godmother, Aunt Wilma Stayzer. He was predecease­d by his uncle Dean Emerson, grandparen­ts Hendrika Oord, Lloyd E. (Jr.) and Nettie Emerson, great-grandparen­ts Malcolm and Vera Minor, and Lloyd W. (Sr.) and Fleeta Emerson. Derek attended Winger Elementary School, E.L.Crossley Secondary School and Niagara College. He was a poster child for the Terry Fox Run and Help A Child Smile (McMaster University Medical Centre). His creativity as a meticulous landscaper, gardener and cook he shared with others. He had a natural talent for golf, hockey and baseball. Derek's example of compassion and his fun loving ways were never ending. Friends and family are rich for having had his presence in their lives. Derek's family will receive visitors at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME AND CHAPEL, 179 Clarence Street, Port Colborne on Thursday, May 19, 2022 from 4-8 p.m. Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral service on Friday, May 20, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. in the Armstrong Chapel with Pastor Brian Lofthouse. Interment to follow in Zion Cemetery, Wainfleet. Memorial donations to Ronald McDonald House Charities South
