It is with broken hearts that we announce Cheryl's peaceful passing, surrounded by loved ones, on Monday at the Douglas Memorial Hospital in Fort Erie. She will be forever loved by her soul-mate and husband, Allan, daughter Alison, son Steve (Rachel) and her pride and joy, grandsons Hayden and Ethan. Cheryl was predeceased by her parents John and Teresa Levay and brothers John and sister-inlaw, Shirley, Joe (Gail) and Marty (Mary). She will be sadly missed by her brothers Jerry (Josee), Steve (Stella) and Terry (Judy) Levay and her brothers-in-law, Larry (Mary), Wayne (Lynn) and Phillip (Carole). Cheryl will also be missed by her many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Aunt Shod's place was a homeaway-from-home for summer holidays, babysitting, a place to stay when going to college or just a soft place to land for her nieces and nephews. Cheryl was a teacher in Special Education programs at Pauline McGibbon school in Welland and later, at Port Colborne Secondary School. In her retirement, Cheryl volunteered at Richmond Street and Westmount elementary schools, helping primary students practice their reading skills. Her interests were needlepoint, cross stitch and going to flower and craft shows with her faithful cousin Lois. But Cheryl's greatest joy in life was her family. She was the matriarch of the Levay family who kept everyone together with her unselfish love and generosity. We all looked forward to the family gatherings on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Easter so we could spend time together and especially those cabbage rolls and perogies that were made with her mother's Hungarian recipes. Cheryl's family would like to thank all of the doctors and nurses for the care she received at the Juravinski Hospital, the Walker Family Cancer Centre and the Fort Erie Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations in Cheryl's memory can be made to one of the hospital foundations. Arrangements have been entrusted to Pleasantview Funeral Home, THOROLD (905-892-1699). According to her wishes, cremation has taken place and she will be laid to rest at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens in a private family internment. A celebration of her beautiful life will be held at a later date.
