The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary was on the scene Wednesday in Mount Pearl when there were reports a substance found in a community mailbox. An onlooker reported some kind of substance was found in the community mailbox when it was opened by a Canada Post mail delivery employee.
The St. John’s Regional Fire Department responded as a precautionary measure, but its services were not required. A postal workers union official told SaltWire Network that someone threw a bag of substance in the box — it wasn’t being mailed to anyone. Police took the bag to have it analyzed and a cleaning company was called in to clean the site.
The union official said all appropriate authorities were called to the scene.
A similar event occurred earlier this spring in St. John’s involving a Canada Post employee.
