The Royal New­found­land Con­stab­u­lary was on the scene Wed­nes­day in Mount Pearl when there were re­ports a sub­stance found in a com­mu­nity mail­box. An on­looker re­ported some kind of sub­stance was found in the com­mu­nity mail­box when it was opened by a Canada Post mail de­liv­ery em­ployee.

The St. John’s Re­gional Fire Depart­ment re­sponded as a pre­cau­tion­ary mea­sure, but its ser­vices were not re­quired. A postal work­ers union of­fi­cial told SaltWire Net­work that some­one threw a bag of sub­stance in the box — it wasn’t be­ing mailed to any­one. Po­lice took the bag to have it an­a­lyzed and a clean­ing com­pany was called in to clean the site.

The union of­fi­cial said all ap­pro­pri­ate au­thor­i­ties were called to the scene.

A sim­i­lar event oc­curred ear­lier this spring in St. John’s in­volv­ing a Canada Post em­ployee.
