Ac­ro­bat’s health im­prov­ing af­ter fall

MON­TREAL — The health of an ac­ro­bat is im­prov­ing af­ter he fell about five me­tres dur­ing a cir­cus per­for­mance in Mon­treal.

Am­bu­lance work­ers who re­sponded to the scene Tues­day night say the per­former was un­con­scious af­ter a ma­jor blow to the head dur­ing a show that is part of the city’s an­nual cir­cus fes­ti­val.

Fes­ti­val or­ga­niz­ers said in a state­ment to­day the man’s in­juries are no longer con­sid­ered life-threat­en­ing even though he has se­vere cra­nial trauma.

A pro­vin­cial health and safety com­mis­sion says the ac­ci­dent oc­curred when his head struck a beam dur­ing a ma­noeu­vre.

The com­mis­sion says the 41-year-old was not wear­ing a har­ness and no safety net was in place.

It is not clear what caused the fall.
