A protest in a play

Do Not Cross/Status Line — a performance by Meagan Musseau — was held Tuesday afternoon on the rooftop of Corner Brook City Hall. Her performance, with about 40 people looking on, seeks to provoke and unsettle the tensions that exist between recognition, or lack thereof, under the Indian Act. This performance piece acknowledges the difficulties that exist for the Mi’kmaq people of Newfoundland in self-determination and sovereignty while the Canadian government owns lands, resources and ultimately controls who is and who is not an Indian.
