Battling for position
Veitch Wellness Centre Masters’ Shane Yetman, front, and Northridge Curling Rangers’ Ryan Joyce jostle for the ball during Corner Brook Molson Senior Men’s Soccer League playoff action Wednesday night at Wellington Street Sports Complex. The fifth-place Rangers put themselves in a strong position to advance past the sixthranked Masters and continue their attempt to climb into the final tier of the playoffs, as they took Game 1 of the two-game, total-goal series by a 3-0 score. The second game of that series will go 9 p.m. Sunday night. In action from the top-three bracket on Wednesday, the league’s two unbeaten teams stayed that way as the top-seeded West Side Monarchs and secondplace Ford Mustangs played to a 0-0 draw. The Mustangs will tangle with third-place Clancy’s Pub 6:30 p.m. Sunday, before the Monarchs square off against that same Stephenville-based pub club 7 p.m. Monday night.
