Bay St. George wins provincial female 14U A baseball crown
ST. JOHN’S — The Bay St. George Vikings won top honours at the 2018 14U A female baseball crown with an 11-8 victory over Conception Bay North Sunday at Terra Nova Field in St. John’s.
The Vikings, led by tournament MVP Jonelle Carter and top pitcher Grace Flynn, finished first overall in the three-team, double round-robin tournament with a 3-1 record.
The Vikings downed Conception Bay North 21-12 and 12-5 in double round-robin play, while beating Pasadena 8-4 before losing 16-13 in the second showdown to finish at 1-3 and a berth in the final.
Victoria Hull of Pasadena won the top batter award, while the top defensive player was Kylie Drover of C.B.N. and the Most Spirited Award went to Caitlyn Mercer of Conception Bay North. Meanwhile, the Corner Brook Barons finished with an 0-4 record at the three-team 2018 provincial 14U AA female baseball tournament held this past weekend at Edgar Hartery Memorial Field.
The St. John’s Capitals won gold with a convincing 9-1 decision over Grand Falls-Windsor in the championship game Sunday in the capital city.
Michayla Bugden of the Barons, who suffered four-straight losses, was selected Most Spirited Player of the tournament.
