Bay St. Ge­orge wins pro­vin­cial fe­male 14U A base­ball crown

ST. JOHN’S — The Bay St. Ge­orge Vik­ings won top hon­ours at the 2018 14U A fe­male base­ball crown with an 11-8 vic­tory over Con­cep­tion Bay North Sun­day at Terra Nova Field in St. John’s.

The Vik­ings, led by tour­na­ment MVP Jonelle Carter and top pitcher Grace Flynn, fin­ished first over­all in the three-team, dou­ble round-robin tour­na­ment with a 3-1 record.

The Vik­ings downed Con­cep­tion Bay North 21-12 and 12-5 in dou­ble round-robin play, while beat­ing Pasadena 8-4 be­fore los­ing 16-13 in the sec­ond show­down to fin­ish at 1-3 and a berth in the fi­nal.

Vic­to­ria Hull of Pasadena won the top bat­ter award, while the top de­fen­sive player was Kylie Drover of C.B.N. and the Most Spir­ited Award went to Cait­lyn Mercer of Con­cep­tion Bay North. Mean­while, the Cor­ner Brook Barons fin­ished with an 0-4 record at the three-team 2018 pro­vin­cial 14U AA fe­male base­ball tour­na­ment held this past week­end at Edgar Hartery Memo­rial Field.

The St. John’s Cap­i­tals won gold with a con­vinc­ing 9-1 de­ci­sion over Grand Falls-Wind­sor in the cham­pi­onship game Sun­day in the cap­i­tal city.

Michayla Bug­den of the Barons, who suf­fered four-straight losses, was se­lected Most Spir­ited Player of the tour­na­ment.
