Po­lice is­sue 24 ci­ta­tions for of­fences dur­ing road safety check

An hour-long road safety check by the Bay St. Ge­orge RCMP in Kippens last Thurs­day re­sulted in po­lice is­su­ing 24 ci­ta­tions for var­i­ous of­fences.

Mem­bers of the de­tach­ment set up the safety check­point on the main road through Kippens at a lo­ca­tion known lo­cally as Doucette’s Bog, near Doucette’s Pond, and be­tween 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. checked about 200 driv­ers.

A va­ri­ety of High­way Traf­fic Act vi­o­la­tions were en­coun­tered, in­clud­ing fail­ure to pro­duce valid driver’s li­censes, reg­is­tra­tions and/or in­sur­ances; fail­ure to com­ply with li­cense re­stric­tions; fail­ure to com­ply with reg­u­la­tions for child safety re­straints; mo­tor ve­hi­cle de­fects; and seat­belt in­frac­tions.

The RCMP re­mind mo­torists it is their responsibi­lity to mon­i­tor reg­is­tra­tion and insurance ex­piry dates and have all ve­hi­cle doc­u­men­ta­tion and their driver’s li­cense read­ily ac­ces­si­ble while op­er­at­ing a mo­tor ve­hi­cle.

Po­lice said in a pre­pared release that mo­torists will en­counter an in­crease in road safety checks in the fu­ture as the RCMP are com­mit­ted to en­sur­ing safety on road­ways within the Bay St. Ge­orge re­gion.
