Pre­lim­i­nary in­quiry un­der­way

COR­NER BROOK, N.L. — The pre­lim­i­nary in­quiry for an east coast man charged in con­nec­tion with the death of another man in a snow­mo­bile ac­ci­dent got un­der­way in provin­cial court in Cor­ner Brook on June 5.

The death oc­curred near Hum­ber Val­ley Re­sort in Fe­bru­ary 2017.

Thomas Whit­tle is charged with im­paired op­er­a­tion of a ve­hi­cle caus­ing death, im­paired op­er­a­tion of a ve­hi­cle (ex­ceed­ing 80 mg) caus­ing death, dan­ger­ous op­er­a­tion of a ve­hi­cle caus­ing death and im­paired driv­ing caus­ing death.

The 28-year-old Con­cep­tion Bay South man is al­leged to have been driv­ing a snow­mo­bile that col­lided with a taxi cab, killing Justyn Pol­lard, 21, a pas­sen­ger on the snow­mo­bile.

Whit­tle is rep­re­sent­ing him­self at the pre­lim­i­nary in­quiry, which will de­ter­mine if there is enough evidence to send the mat­ter to trial in the Supreme Court of New­found­land and Labrador. The pre­lim­i­nary in­quiry will con­tinue on Aug. 7 and 8.
