Preliminary inquiry underway
CORNER BROOK, N.L. — The preliminary inquiry for an east coast man charged in connection with the death of another man in a snowmobile accident got underway in provincial court in Corner Brook on June 5.
The death occurred near Humber Valley Resort in February 2017.
Thomas Whittle is charged with impaired operation of a vehicle causing death, impaired operation of a vehicle (exceeding 80 mg) causing death, dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death and impaired driving causing death.
The 28-year-old Conception Bay South man is alleged to have been driving a snowmobile that collided with a taxi cab, killing Justyn Pollard, 21, a passenger on the snowmobile.
Whittle is representing himself at the preliminary inquiry, which will determine if there is enough evidence to send the matter to trial in the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador. The preliminary inquiry will continue on Aug. 7 and 8.
