Breast cancer care and improved overall health care in western Newfoundland and Labrador are the focus of a two-year case for support fundraising campaign launched by the Western Regional Hospital Foundation in Corner Brook on June 6. The campaign has a goal of raising $1,003,000 to purchase a 3D mammography unit, a lymphatic mapping probe and a general ultrasound. The foundation says all three pieces of equipment will provide enhanced technology, clearer imagery, earlier cancer detection, superior diagnostic capabilities and greater efficiencies in the medical imaging department as well as less invasive treatment options and better tumour localization in the operating room. Radiologists Dr. Jennifer Lombard, left, and Dr. Ed Mercer spoke about the three pieces of equipment during the launch.
