A land sale and lease agreement between the City of Corner Brook and 78117 Newfoundland and Labrador Limited (formerly Majors Logging Ltd.) will create some much-needed parking in the West Street area.

The company is currently building a micro-brewery and boutique hotel at 55 West St., the former site of The Bargain Shop. During the June 17 public council meeting, the city approved selling at portion of the land behind the development to the company and entering into a lease agreement for another portion where 78117 would be responsible for constructing 22 parking spots off Todd Street, the area behind the Ultramar gas station.

The work will include all subsurface work, site grading, retaining walls, drainage and curb work and relocating the trailhead for the proposed Maj. Bertram Butler Trail, and will be completed at no cost to the city.

The company will lease 12 of the parking spaces from the city for $1 per year and the city will meter the remaining 10 spots. The agreement is for 10 years and includes an option for extension.
