Port aux Basques po­lice lay charges in cat’s death

PORT AUX BASQUES, N.L. — The RCMP in Port aux Basques have charged a man and a wo­man in con­nec­tion with the al­leged vi­o­lent death of a cat in the town.

The cat, iden­ti­fied by a cat res­cue group in the area as Mit­tens, was al­legedly killed on Sept. 10.

Peter Ros­siter, 51, of O’Re­gans has been charged with one count of in­jur­ing or en­dan­ger­ing an an­i­mal and one count of caus­ing un­nec­es­sary suf­fer­ing to an an­i­mal. Jody An­der­son, 38, of Cape Ray has been charged with one count of in­jur­ing or en­dan­ger­ing an an­i­mal and two counts of caus­ing un­nec­es­sary suf­fer­ing to an an­i­mal. The charges were laid last week.

Both have been re­leased from cus­tody. They will ap­pear in pro­vin­cial court in Port aux Basques in De­cem­ber.
