The Healthy Vibe:

Corner Brook’s Health & Wellness Store

The Western Star - - CLOSE TO HOME -

It’s been 10 years since our last celebration with The Healthy Vibe, a Natural Health & Wellness Store located in the Valley Mall. The store is known for its wide selection of high-quality natural health products as well as it’s professionally educated and personable staff.

Now, 10 years later, they are gearing up to celebrate 20 years in business and Owner Paulette Fudge could not be happier! In speaking with Paulette, she shares with us a perfect example of when you set your mind to something, you can achieve anything.

“Back in 1999, when I started in the business, everyone thought I was crazy. A single mom, investing in a health food store during a time when “health food stores” weren’t very popular. However, I saw the opportunity and jumped in wholeheartedly. I thought if I could operate a business that was built on helping others and make a living to provide for my family then I would be ok.”

This good karma has definitely paid off for Paulette. She says, “the store has succeeded my wildest dreams”.

A lot can change in 10 years as we all know. Paulette and her staff have adapted their selection of products over the years and have introduced many new features.

The Healthy Vibe has up-kept their large selection of natural supplements, essential oils, weight-loss and body building products, natural beauty products, accessories, and organic foods but now have even more to offer Corner Brook’s growing community.

With The Healthy Vibe’s growing popularity, Paulette and her daughter, Megan Kennedy, decided it was time for the St. John’s community to enjoy the stores goodness as well. Together, they opened a store in busy downtown St. John’s September 2012, which immediately took off. It was only a short two years later the store outgrew their location & moved to 306 Water Street, where they are continuing to thrive.

When speaking with Megan she described the St. John’s location as a “specific vibe”. The store is trendy, hip and holds a very cozy atmosphere.

“Our store is downtown St. John’s ‘one stop health shop’, with a unique selection of supplements, health foods, eco-refill station, smoothie bar, and the newest edition, a cannabis counter.”

Paulette and Megan, both visionaries saw a need to reduce plastic consumption as well as waste going back into the environment so they got to brainstorming with their staff.

In the spring of this year, the ladies decided to give the Eco-Refill Station a shot at their St. John’s location, and the success was phenomenal.

Following this, Paulette started Corner Brook’s first Eco-Refill station. This is a section in The Healthy Vibe where one can bring in an empty bottle from home and refill with their common daily hygiene products, such as, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap, laundry detergent and dish soap.

The store also has glass bottles for purchase, but strongly recommends bringing your own as this is a way to reduce more waste.

The Heathy Vibe is currently the only Eco-Refill station in the Corner Brook area and Paulette is so grateful to be able to provide the community with this option.

“Not only are we reducing waste, we are also encouraging the use of chemical free beauty and cleaning products. Not many people understand that what you put on your body is just as important, and these harsh chemicals found in beauty products these days are doing more damage than we realize. We pride ourselves in the fact that our refillable products are all natural and free of sulphates, parabens, and synthetic fragrances.”

The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive since the store announced the launch of the Eco-Refill station this past June.

“I had one lady say since using our station back in June, she estimates she has saved buying 5 plastic bottles a month, which if you add that up to today is over 25 plastic bottles. It’s simply amazing!”

Paulette is also excited to announce to the newest addition to their reduced waste approach, which is “Kombucha on Tap”. “Customers can bring in their own bottle or purchase a mason jar from us”.

If you don’t know what Kombucha is, store manager Kristy explains that it is a form of fermented tea!

“Kombucha is fermented tea, in which they take a Scoby: Symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast, and this allows for fermentation to occur as well as natural carbonation. This process results in an abundance of probiotics, bacteria that is good for the gut and brain, digestive enzymes to help us break down our food better and reduce bloating, as well as tons of B-vitamins, that can help support mental health and energy levels”

The tea is a very refreshing and a light beverage that can easily be a great substitute to your afternoon coffee.

Health is becoming more and more of a priority to our community and having a store of The Healthy Vibe’s nature is necessary.

Paulette shares her excitement of what’s to come when we asked her the stores vison for the next 10 years.

“There is so much potential for The Healthy Vibe and with the Natural Health Industry expanding year by year, I am ecstatic to be amongst it.”

Paulette also shares that they have a heavy involvement with their customers.

“We always reach out to our community of amazing customers to share with us what it is they would like available to them, and we do our best to provide!”

If you would like to keep in touch with The Healthy Vibe, you can head over to their Facebook group, The Healthy Vibe Corner Brook, where they share tips and tricks on all things natural. This is also where the store will post regarding any sales, giveaways or events coming up!
