Stephenvil­le coun­cil ap­proves four fi­nance items

Nods given to grants sup­port­ing com­mu­nity ef­forts

STEPHENVIL­LE, N.L. — Stephenvil­le town coun­cil ap­proved four items un­der fi­nance at its reg­u­lar gen­eral meet­ing held Oct. 17.

An ac­counts payable list­ing for Septem­ber 2019 to­tal­ing $301,719.30 was ap­proved.

Coun­cil ap­proved a do­na­tion of $250 to the Royal Cana­dian Le­gion, Branch 35 for its 2019 Poppy Re­mem­brance Cam­paign.

Coun­cil agreed to pro­vide a grant of $2,500 to Go West­ern

New­found­land for 2020 mar­ket­ing ini­tia­tives. Coun­cil ap­proved a grant in the amount of $20,000 to Stephenvil­le Gar­dens Cor­po­ra­tion.

Coun. Mark Felix, fi­nance com­mit­tee chair­man, said this brings the to­tal of grant money to the Stephenvil­le Gar­dens Cor­po­ra­tion to $120,000 for this year. He noted, how­ever, work has been done to up­grade the Stephenvil­le Dome fa­cil­ity and the town will re­vert back to a $100,000 grant in 2020.
