Oakland United Church is host­ing its fi­nal garage sale of the sea­son on June 16 start­ing at 9 a.m.


The Hum­ber Dean­ery are hold­ing a fundraiser to help with spon­sor­ship of its next Syr­ian fam­ily at Granny’s At­tic in Deer Lake on Saturday, June 16. All pro­ceeds from sales from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. will go to the spon­sor­ship fund.


The Grace Bap­tist Church will hold its first ser­vice in its new lo­ca­tion June 17. The church has moved to the Hum­ber Trust Build­ing, 19 West St., Suite 26. Park­ing is in the back of the build­ing.


The Western En­vi­ron­ment Cen­tre will host a con­tainer gar­den­ing work­shop at the Cor­ner Brook Pub­lic Li­brary on Tuesday, June 19 at 3:30 pm. It’s for all ages, and par­tic­i­pants will learn how easy it is to grow veg­eta­bles and herbs in all types of con­tain­ers. Con­tainer gar­den­ing is ideal for any level of gar­den­ing ex­pe­ri­ence. All ma­te­ri­als will be pro­vided. The work­shop is free, but do­na­tions are en­cour­aged. RSVP to info@


The Royal Cana­dian Le­gion Branch 13 will be host­ing a fish din­ner on June 20.

Ef­fec­tive im­me­di­ately hours of oper­a­tion will be 4-5:30 p.m. Fri­days. Mary’s Kitchen is op­er­ated by the So­ci­ety of St. Vincent de Paul with the co-oper­a­tion and help of vol­un­teers from other Catholic or­ga­ni­za­tions. A free hot meal is of­fered to ev­ery­one who at­tends. It is lo­cated in the base­ment of Most Holy Redeemer Cathe­dral, Mt. Bernard Ave. All are wel­come.


The New­found­land Abo­rig­i­nal Women’s Net­work of­fers cul­tural sen­si­tiv­ity work­shops to all ser­vice providers, stake­hold­ers and/or or­ga­ni­za­tions of­fer­ing ser­vices and pro­grams. This work­shop fo­cuses on iden­ti­fy­ing with and re­spect­ing var­i­ous cul­tures. It also in­tro­duces some tra­di­tional Mi’kmaq cul­ture and teach­ings.
