Elwood In­vi­ta­tional bas­ket­ball tour­na­ment gets un­der­way with win for host team

A game-high 21-point per­for­mance from Ian Col­bourne helped power the Elwood High Lak­ers past the Tem­ple­ton Acad­emy Tigers on Thurs­day in the open­ing game of the 42nd Elwood In­vi­ta­tional Boys Bas­ket­ball Tour­na­ment in Deer Lake.

Jor­dan Sprack­lin chipped in 14 points for the vic­tors of the Tier 1 con­test.

James Comb­don led the Tigers with 15 points, while Noah Park drained 11 and Kris Loder and Kurtis White put up 10 apiece.

In the other game of the day, a Tier 2 tilt, Gavin Cur­tis scored 25 for Xavier in a 71-60 tri­umph for Cop­per Ridge.

Stephen Nzdyamora threw down a dozen in the win, while Ryan Legge added 11.

An­drew Small was the top threat in the los­ing cause, rack­ing up 25 points.

Ac­tion re­sumes 9 a.m. to­day at Xavier Junor High and 10 a.m. at Elwood High, be­fore clew­ing up with semi­fi­nal and fi­nal play on Satur­day.
