Small-Town Girl Makes Hearing Healthcare More Accessible with Out Clinic
Alyssa Robertson, Hearing Instrument Specialist at ListenUP! Canada, looks forward to her out clinic days when she offers hearing healthcare services to Linwood locals. For Robertson, this is a welcomed change of scenery and a break from her regular routine.
"I find visiting any of our out clinics rewarding because it allows me to meet new people and do my job outside of my everyday clinic. I am a small town girl and I really enjoy the connection, conversation, and the atmosphere that we have within our communities,” says Robertson.
Robertson began her career with ListenUP! Canada as a co-op student and has been a full-time employee since 2014.
“I learned the “ins and outs” of hearing healthcare behind the scenes,” says Robertson. My choice to do my schooling while working in the field allowed me to further my passion for helping people and helped me learn firsthand how important hearing health is and how rewarding it is to help those with hearing loss.”
ListenUP! Canada has a hearing healthcare clinic at 1195 Wallace Avenue North Unit #300 in Listowel that is open Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm, but for some in Linwood, this may be a distance to travel. To solve this issue, Robertson drives to the Linwood out clinic at 5162 Ament Line Unit A to provide complimentary hearing tests (by appointment only) as well as the follow-up hearing healthcare required for those who are unable to travel to the nearest clinic. Robertson’s motivation to serve in these out clinics stems from her care for and deep interest in people.
“I wanted to do something where I was able to make a difference in people’s lives and get to know them as well as their unique stories,” says Robertson. “For me, that was a career in hearing healthcare.”
