9:00 AM | Wellington County OPP responded to a lifethreatening situation on Sideroad 30 near Wellington Road 26, Centre Wellington. Initial reports indicated that a 76-year-old woman had fallen through the ice of a private pond while trying to save her dog and was trapped in the frigid water. OPP officers responded, entered the water and pulled the woman to safety. Centre Wellington Fire Rescue and Guelph-Wellington Paramedics Services attended and provided medical assistance. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment of exposure. The dog was able to get out on its own and was unharmed.
