THIS WEEK IN HISTORY
The first winter storm of the season blew through the region Nov. 13, closing schools, roads and businesses – many of which were left without power for much of the morning. With a combination of 110-kilometre-per-hour winds and swirling snow, area police were kept busy trying to keep up with all the collisions and vehicles blown off the road. Between 6 and 11:30 a.m., Waterloo Region Police responded to more than 60 collisions. From the Nov. 15, 2003 edition of The Observer
