Region among grant recipients
The Region of Waterloo is among the 109 municipalities that will receive $4.5 million under the latest federal grants announced this week.
The region will receive $30,700 towards a feasibility study related to a wastewater treatment plant. Neighbouring Mapleton Township will get $41,400 to help with an asset management plan.
The grants to communities across the country come from three programs: the Green Municipal Fund (GMF), the Municipalities for Climate Innovation Program (MCIP), and the Municipal Asset Management Program (MAMP). Each provides funding while allowing local municipalities to decide where to focus green solutions. The goal is to reduce Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions and support local priorities such as improving public transit, saving energy and improving waste management.
“Today’s announcement highlights how municipal leaders across Canada are innovating to build more sustainable, resilient and livable communities. Thanks to our partnership with the government of Canada, our programs support local solutions with national impact, contributing to infrastructure renewal and our transition to a lowcarbon economy, said Federation of Canadian Municipalities president Vicki-May Hamm in a release.
