5:30 PM | Welling­ton County OPP re­sponded to a multi-ve­hi­cle col­li­sion at Welling­ton Road 12 and Welling­ton Road 7. Re­ports in­di­cated that a red pickup and blue hatch­back col­lided and that four peo­ple had been in­jured. Po­lice at­tended and while speak­ing with the driver of the pickup formed the opin­ion that he was im­paired. He was ar­rested and brought to a lo­cal OPP op­er­a­tions cen­tre for test­ing. Four in­jured oc­cu­pants from the hatch­back were trans­ported to a lo­cal hospi­tal with mi­nor in­juries. A 37-year-old Moore­field man was charged with ‘op­er­at­ing a con­veyance (mo­tor ve­hi­cle, ves­sel, air­craft or rail­way equip­ment) while im­paired to any de­gree by al­co­hol or drug or com­bi­na­tion of al­co­hol and drug’ and ‘within two hours af­ter ceas­ing to op­er­ate a con­veyance had a blood al­co­hol con­cen­tra­tion (BAC) of 80mg (or higher) of al­co­hol in 100mL of blood.’ A 90day ad­min­is­tra­tive driver’s li­cence sus­pen­sion (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day ce­hi­cle im­pound­ment was ini­ti­ated as per statute. He is sched­uled to ap­pear in Guelph Court on Fe­bru­ary 1.

9:30 AM | A Welling­ton County OPP of­fi­cer mon­i­tor­ing traf­fic stopped a ve­hi­cle for er­ratic driv­ing be­hav­iour on Welling­ton Road 109, Minto. While speak­ing with the driver it was de­ter­mined that he was un­der the in­flu­ence of al­co­hol. A road­side screen­ing test re­sulted in a fail. The driver was ar­rested and brought to a lo­cal OPP op­er­a­tions cen­tre for fur­ther test­ing. A 35-year-old of Sar­nia man was charged with ‘im­paired op­er­a­tion of a mo­tor ve­hi­cle by hav­ing a blood al­co­hol con­cen­tra­tion of 80 mg plus of al­co­hol in 100ml of blood.’ His driver’s li­cence was sus­pended for 90 days, and his car im­pounded for a week. He is sched­uled to ap­pear in Guelph Crim­i­nal Court on Jan­uary 29.

JAN­UARY 1

1:30 AM | Mem­bers of the Welling­ton County OPP were mon­i­tor­ing traf­fic on Welling­ton Road 7, south of Elora when the driver of a sil­ver hatch­back was stopped for speed­ing while trav­el­ling over 110 km/h in an 80km/h zone. While speak­ing with the male driver, of­fi­cers formed the opin­ion that he was un­der the in­flu­ence of al­co­hol. A road­side screen­ing test was con­ducted, which re­sulted in a fail. He was ar­rested and brought in fur­ther test­ing. As a re­sult, the 20-year-old Oakville man was charged with ‘im­paired driv­ing - over 80 (mgs or more of al­co­hol in 100ml of blood)’ and ‘speed­ing.’ A 90-day A.D.L.S. and seven-day ve­hi­cle im­pound­ment were ini­ti­ated. He is sched­uled to ap­pear in Guelph Court on Fe­bru­ary 8 to an­swer the charges.
