Mak­ing a res­o­lu­tion to make a few healthy changes


IT’S A NEW YEAR right, but is it a new you? Or even a work in progress? I’m still smil­ing about how 2018 went and hop­ing the trend con­tin­ues, but there’s al­ways more to be done. Still, we have been for­tu­nate to be in this ever chang­ing com­mu­nity and work­ing to al­ways get bet­ter.

This week­end we are work­ing with a great group of ladies look­ing to raise money for a good cause but also en­cour­age you to take the time to re­plen­ish. What does that mean? The idea is if you aren’t able to take time for you, to sa­ti­ate your needs, you won’t be able to ef­fec­tively give to oth­ers.

Re­plen­ish­ing is about do­ing things that make you feel good. A date with a good book, med­i­ta­tion, ex­er­cise, a walk on the trail, all good ideas to recharge your bat­ter­ies, re­leas­ing all sorts of feel-good hor­mones and oxy­gen into your body.

In that vein, one of the favourite ways to start the day was with a smoothie – so much good­ness in­side one glass – but as we’re in the se­cond week of 2019 I can’t re­mem­ber when I had my last break­fast smoothie.

I’m not talk­ing the sweet fast-food kind of smoothie, of course. Rather, go with some real fruit, veg­gies ice and a liq­uid such as al­mond milk, co­conut water or kom­bucha. Juices are great but they spike the blood su­gar, which is not very healthy on a reg­u­lar ba­sis.

In­stead of rush­ing out the door with­out break­fast, try this lit­tle num­ber, or pop in to the North­field Rac­quet Club, where the smooth­ies are healthy and tasty. Tell them Dierre sent you. Happy New Year.

GoodMorn­ing Smoothie

1 cup frozen straw­ber­ries

1/2 frozen banana, chopped

2/3 cup co­conut water or al­mond milk

1 peeled and seeded or­ange

1 tsp. chia seeds

1 tsp. flax seeds

1 hand­ful of spinach

1 tsp. lo­cal honey

Prepa­ra­tion is easy: sim­ply place all in­gre­di­ents in blender and blend on high un­til smooth.

Pour into your favourite eco-friendly cup and en­joy.
