Making a resolution to make a few healthy changes

- DIERRE ACHESON RECIPE NOTES

IT’S A NEW YEAR right, but is it a new you? Or even a work in progress? I’m still smiling about how 2018 went and hoping the trend continues, but there’s always more to be done. Still, we have been fortunate to be in this ever changing community and working to always get better.

This weekend we are working with a great group of ladies looking to raise money for a good cause but also encourage you to take the time to replenish. What does that mean? The idea is if you aren’t able to take time for you, to satiate your needs, you won’t be able to effectively give to others.

Replenishing is about doing things that make you feel good. A date with a good book, meditation, exercise, a walk on the trail, all good ideas to recharge your batteries, releasing all sorts of feel-good hormones and oxygen into your body.

In that vein, one of the favourite ways to start the day was with a smoothie – so much goodness inside one glass – but as we’re in the second week of 2019 I can’t remember when I had my last breakfast smoothie.

I’m not talking the sweet fast-food kind of smoothie, of course. Rather, go with some real fruit, veggies ice and a liquid such as almond milk, coconut water or kombucha. Juices are great but they spike the blood sugar, which is not very healthy on a regular basis.

Instead of rushing out the door without breakfast, try this little number, or pop in to the Northfield Racquet Club, where the smoothies are healthy and tasty. Tell them Dierre sent you. Happy New Year.
