Elmira firefighters planning first Paddy’s Day dance since the pandemic
THE ELMIRA FIRE FIGHTERS’ SAINT PATRICK’S Day dance is set to return for the first time since the pandemic after a five-year absence.
The event, which celebrates all things Irish with a variety of green alcoholic drinks and music from the land of leprechauns, will start at 8 p.m. at the town’s Lions Hall on March 16.
Tickets, which can be bought in advance at Elmira Meat Market as well as from individual firefighters and Lions Club members, cost $15 and will also be available at the door on the night.
As well as drinks and a DJ at the over-19 event, there will be a prize raffle
and sandwiches, chips and other snacks will be available.
Funds raised from the Saint Patrick’s Day dance will be split equally between the town’s fire station and Lions Club and go to a range of charities.
Firefighter Taylor Clemmer, who is the Elmira station’s social committee organizer, said she hopes to match at least the $10,000 the dance raised when it was last held in 2019.
“I’m just so excited to get the community out for a dance again,” she said.
“We haven’t been able to do this since before the pandemic and I think it’s going to be a lot of fun.
“There’s going to be green beer and another fun thing that we’re doing, besides like your normal coolers and mixed drinks, will be green jello shots.”
The Elmira firefighters are splitting their share of the proceeds between Muscular Dystrophy Canada and their antique fire truck, which is often used to give rides to the town’s schoolchildren.
Elmira Lions Club members are raising money for Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides and community outreach.
“It’s all for a good cause and it’s going to be a lot of fun, so I hope we’ll see a lot of people there ready to have a good time,” added Clemmer.
