$1.8 mil­lion do­na­tion paves way for Thorn­hill home for women

Af­ter re­ceiv­ing a do­na­tion of $1.8 mil­lion from the Miriam and Larry Rob­bins Foun­da­tion, the Reena Foun­da­tion has an­nounced the found­ing of a new group home for women. The or­ga­ni­za­tion has pro­vided com­mu­nity ser­vices and hous­ing for in­di­vid­u­als with de­vel­op­men­tal dis­abil­i­ties for 45 years. Ac­cord­ing to Reena Foun­da­tion ex­ec­u­tive di­rec­tor Sheila Lam­pert, women with de­vel­op­men­tal dis­abil­i­ties are 65 per cent more likely to ex­pe­ri­ence abuse. Reena cur­rently pro­vides spe­cial­ized res­i­den­tial sup­port in over 30 group homes and over 131 sup­ported in­de­pen­dent liv­ing apart­ments. Toronto Maple Leaf Mitch Marner, who helps com­mu­nity or­ga­ni­za­tions through his Mitch Marner Fund, at­tended the cheque pre­sen­ta­tion.
