Ford gives new university campus a failing grade

Thornhill Post - - News -

Ontario Premier Doug Ford cancelled the funding for three post-secondary campus expansion plans, including the joint plans of York University and Seneca College to open a new facility in Markham. The $252 million project was relying largely on funding from the Ontario government and was approved in May 2015 by the previous Liberal government. Despite the an- nouncement, both York and Seneca have pledged to continue with the plans, calling their project “shovel ready.” A joint statement from project partners sent a clear message: “We all remain steadfast in our commitment to seeing this project through to a successful completion.” Funding was also cut to projects in Milton and Brampton.

DOWN BUT NOT OUT? The provincial government had allocated $125 million to the York project.
