Man’s body found near Quadra Island

The body of a man has been found floating off Quadra Island after an apparent sailing accident.

The Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Victoria was alerted around 10:30 a.m. Sunday that a sailboat was drifting near the island, east of Campbell River.

Rescue crews arrived and determined someone had fallen overboard. Search and rescue crews found the man’s body around 10 metres offshore, floating in a kelp bed.

The case has been turned over to the B.C. Coroners Service.
