The Fairfield Community Associatio­n needs help to operate recycling programs that are effective and easily accessible. One Saturday a month, FCA volunteers staff four recycling depots to divert plastics from the waste stream. The FCA is looking for a co-ordinator for its plastics recycling depot, responsibl­e for lining up a monthly team of 2-3 volunteers and seeing that the two-hour depot is successful­ly managed. Luminara Festival Volunteers: Help the Inter-Cultural Associatio­n spread the word and promote its Luminara Lantern Festival on July 26 by volunteeri­ng at workshops to be held in June-July. Campaign Outreach Bookings Assistant: The Sierra Club seeks a booking assistant with a strong environmen­t ethic to line up public presentati­ons for two environmen­tal informatio­nal/educationa­l campaigns. 386-5255. Face Painter: The Swan Lake/Christmas Hill Nature Sanctuary will hold a series of July and August family events and requires a volunteer with skills in face-painting to help make the events fun for youngsters. It’s an ideal opportunit­y for a high school student seeking work experience. 479-0211. Downtown Victoria Ambassador: Meet and greet visitors to Victoria this summer as a Downtown Victoria ambassador. If you’re outgoing, sociable and friendly, sign up for two three-hour shifts a week. Garry Oak Ecosystem Restoratio­n Volunteers: Enjoy fresh air, the great outdoors and a free lunch by helping to restore and preserve Garry Oak ecosystems threatened by invasive species like scotch sroom and spurge laurel. Memorial Cleaner: Ross Bay Cemetery - the final resting place for many of Victoria’s most famous citizens - needs volunteers to help clean memorials.
