Treat addicts as they deserve


Re: “Society pays a high price for the bad choices of a few,” May 31.

Finally I could read a Times Colonist article, the one by Iain Hunter, treating drug addicts as they deserve to be treated.

Sadly, most Times Colonist articles stress the rights of drug addicts rather than those of lawabiding people, who suffer here in B.C. the highest concentrat­ion of drug crime in Canada. I’m outraged by certain libertaria­n attitudes from some of your journalist­s.

Make drug liberaliza­tion a social cause, and our teenagers will be tempted to become drugged social activists — the new cool.

Even worse, thousands of drug addicts from elsewhere in North America have converged in Victoria. Already the number of street people is increasing more and more. Claudia Cielo Victoria
