Blinds pose risk to children
OTTAWA — Health Canada has issued a recall notice for Shade-O-Matic manufacturedblinds that were found to pose a strangulation hazard to children.
Health Canada said 75,000 of the blinds were sold across Canada between November 2006 and last month. They were sold as Jasper Faux Wood Blinds and S48 Printed Faux Wood Blinds at The Home Depot and Whole Home two-inch Printed Faux Wood Blinds at Sears Canada.
No injuries or deaths have been reported. However, testing found that the inner cord of the blinds could be pulled out to form a loop of more than 10 centimetres in diameter, enough to allow a child to stick its head through and become entangled, Health Canada said in a statement.
