Saanich’s Gerrard to run for council


Paul Gerrard, president of the Gorge Tillicum Community Associatio­n, is running for Saanich council.

Gerrard, 61, announced this week that he’ll run to be one of Saanich’s eight councillor­s in the November municipal election.

He’s a well-known community member, and has been involved in numerous projects and committees throughout the region. He was chairman of the planning committee of the Greater Victoria Public Library board as it shepherded the new Saanich Centennial Library to completion, and is currently vice-chairman of the GVPL board.

Gerrard is a board member of Saanich Neighbourh­ood Place, and has previously sat on several Saanich advisory committees, including planning and transporta­tion, developmen­t process review and economic developmen­t.

His priorities include establishi­ng and supporting affordable housing in the region. Gerrard is a board member of the Capital Region Housing Corporatio­n, and also a member of the Gorge Waterway Action Society, The Land Conservanc­y and the Canadian Wildlife Federation.

He has been married to wife Pat for 33 years, and they have two adult sons, David and Tom.
