Councillor likely to bid for Victoria mayoralty
Victoria councillor Dean Fortin is expected to announce today that he intends to run for mayor of the region’s core municipality.
Fortin sent a news release to media outlets yesterday saying he would be making a “campaign announcement” today at the Victoria Event Centre.
Fortin, who was first elected to council in 2002, would not confirm yesterday the nature of the announcement, but he has widely been known to be weighing whether to run again as a councillor or take a run at the Victoria mayor’s chair in November’s municipal election.
Fortin would be the first candidate to declare his intentions to run for mayor in a race that is wide open after Mayor Alan Lowe announced in December that he would not seek reelection.
