Wings, Kronwall sign 7-year deal

The Detroit Red Wing secured some stability along their blue-line on Monday, signing defenceman Niklas Kronwall to a seven-year contract extension.

Kronwall, 30, was set to become an unrestricted free agent next summer, but instead the Swede stands to take over for countryman Nicklas Lidstrom as the Wings’ marquee blue-liner.

Financial terms of the deal were not released.

Kronwall has 35 goals, 148 assists and a plus-50 rating in 394 career games in the NHL.
