The Victoria Cool Aid Society has, since 1968, provided assistance to the homeless and those in need. Their wide ranges of programs include supported housing, community health and dental services, emergency shelter, mental health and employment services, and the Downtown Community Centre. Working within the Capital Region community, Victoria Cool Aid has brought health and hope to more than 10,000 people. Today they are seeking volunteer mentors to work one-on-one with an adult who self-identifies with a mental health and/or substance challenge. Mentors should be willing to engage in their partners' recovery journey, assisting them in creating achievable goals, participating in activities and helping them to connect with their communities. Training will be provided, and the time commitment is long-term. Participation in this project is an invaluable opportunity for self-development, and to take an active role in the response to substance-use challenges in our region. Please consider volunteering your special skills. Call 250-595-8619. Want to Volunteer? These and many other opportunities are available at www.volunteervictoria.bc.ca or by calling 250-386-2269.
