The Times Colonist Christmas Fund assists people in need at Christmas time, providing gift cards and grocery vouchers. Applications for help from the Fund can be picked up at the Times Colonist, 2621 Douglas Street. The deadline for submitting the forms is Nov. 25. Anyone in need of help this Christmas can fill in a form, but that is no guarantee that it can be provided by the Fund, said Times Colonist promotions and community relations manager Shannon Kowalko. The extent of help depends on donations. “The more donations we can get, the more people we can help,” Kowalko said. Readers are usually exceptionally generous. Last year, about $296,000 was donated, and more than 2,000 people were helped. “The help we provide is really based on the generosity of our readers,” Kowalko said. Those receiving help from the Christmas Fund will be contacted by mid-december. The Christmas Fund fundraising campaign begins later this month. — Times Colonist
