Transforce earnings up

MONTREAL — National trucker Transforce Inc. said Tuesday higher thirdquarter earnings were mostly driven by three acquisitions and it is focusing on optimizing its fleets and holding down costs in an uncertain economy.

Quarterly revenue for the Montreal-based trucking firm (including fuel surcharges) was $743 million, up 49 per cent from a year earlier.

Package and courier operations improved but newly acquired Loomis Express lost money, said chief executive Alain Bedard.
