SYMPHONY SPLASH TODAY

-

The 24th annual Symphony Splash launches at 1 p.m. today, with about 40,000 spectators expected to pack the waterfront and downtown Victoria.

Spectators on both land and sea — onlookers are encouraged to view the show from kayaks and canoes — will gather around Victoria’s Inner Harbour to watch the performances.

Organizers have spent about 10 months arranging the day’s events.

The Family Zone opens at 1 p.m., while the opening musical act takes the stage at 4 p.m. The Victoria Symphony’s performance begins at 7:30 p.m. and wraps up — with a bang — at about 10.

Audience members can begin placing their chairs and blankets at 8 a.m. Belleville Street between Menzies and Government streets will close by noon. Government Street from Superior to Humboldt streets, Belleville Street from Menzies to Douglas streets, and Wharf Street from Government to Broughton streets will close at 2 p.m.

Admission is free, but a $5 donation earns a Splash button.
