The Sunday right after Labour Day is Metchosin Day – a fun day that’s free for the whole family. Starting at 8 a.m., a 5km run/walk leaves from the community hall and ends at the municipal grounds. There are valuable prizes (fresh Metchosin produce) for the fastest in all age classes, and terrific draw prizes. After the race, have pancakes at the Scouts tent for breakfast.

More than 100 vendors will be set up on the village green – CRD Parks , farmer’s market, wool spinning, pottery, jewelry, produce, dog treats, soaps, plants, herbs, balloons, fashions, honey, aprons, baked goods, flowers, natural wood products, jams, body art and so much more. Enjoy entertainment at the pavilion. Village Green activities start at 11 a.m. with a pet contest. At noon, take part in children games.

Around the grounds you can watch and be part of the Malahat Mauraders, the Ranns water pump, blacksmiths, sheep shearing, dunk tank, backhoe and hay rides for kids, and more! Check out the astral show with a space bus and models of the solar system, and an ecliptic calendar setup across the field. Sharing the field will be the Project Ger- mani, a historical reenactment of the first century BC to the first century AD.

A new feature this year is the Yikes Bikes Extravaganza – a bike event for all ages from the youngest bike riders to seniors. Bring your decorated bike to the Village Green for prizes in lots of categories – registration is noon to 1 p.m., parade and judging from 1p.m. to 2:30 p.m., and awards from 2:30 p.m. – 3 p.m..

Also new this year is a motorcycle demonstration by Victoria Motorcycle Club. Spectators will have an opportunity to speak with the riders and see their bikes up close between demonstrations.

Not only is Metchosin Day free, so is the parking. There is space for hundreds of cars right next to the village green. Enter off Happy Valley Rd. and exit out Rocky Point Rd.

And don’t miss the Metchosin Day Kick-Off Dance on Fri. Sept. 11, from 7 p.m. to midnight! Join the Metchosin Community Association for an 80sthemed dance with live music at the Community Hall. Tickets are $15 and should be purchased in advance at the Metchosin Community House.
