T yler Shaw was just 13 when he discovered an old guitar underneath his staircase; he also discovered his life’s passion. Having never taken a professional music lesson, Tyler developed his love and talent for performance on his own, and has drawn inspiration from a wide range of artists including John Mayer, Michael Bublé, and The Script. Now 22 years old, this Coquitlam, B.C. native has gone from fooling around with a set of secondhand strings to signing a major record deal with Sony Music Canada, two certified Gold records, two Top 10 radio smash singles, and working on releasing his first full length album this summer!

Heading from one end of the country to the other, Tyler enrolled as a student at the University of PEI, and it was here where his dorm friends encouraged him to submit some of his YouTube videos to MuchMusic’s Coca-Cola’s Covers competition. His talent took him to the top and Tyler was chosen as the 2012 winner from over 13,000 submissions. His triumph was broadcast live from the MuchMusic Video Awards stage in June, 2012.

Fast forward to November of the same year and Tyler released his own original single Kiss

Goodnight to radio across the country. The romantic pop jam is a co-write by Shaw, about having a night to remember. Kiss Goodnight became a gold selling single, helping Shaw to land opening slots on select Canadian shows with artists including Ke$ha and Pitbull. Additionally, his track Showtime was adopted as the official song for the 2014 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Canada.

This fall Tyler Shaw will head out on a Canadian tour opening for pop powerhouse Kelly Clarkson and special guest Nick Jonas.

The Mary Winspear Centre is proud to present Tyler Shaw with special guest Kate Morgan on Sun., Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. Tickets are under $20, available at the box office 250-656-0275 or online at marywinspear.ca
