Junior, Intermediate Shamrocks make changes

-

It is an off-season of change for both the Victoria Junior and Intermediate Shamrocks lacrosse programs.

The clubs recently announced the appointments of new general managers for both teams as Tim Dennett takes over the junior program and Wade Murray steps into the role with the intermediates.

Murray comes to the intermediates as an experienced coach in both box and field lacrosse and has coached in the Peninsula Lacrosse Association for the past 10 years and with Pacific Rim Lacrosse for three campaigns.

He was the head man for the 2015 Midget B Peninsula team that won the league banner and earned bronze at provincials. In 2014, he directed the field lacrosse team that went 14-1 during the regular season.

For the past two years Dennett — who started playing lacrosse when he was four — has been the head coach of the Intermediate Shamrocks where he won a silver medal in 2014 and gold in 2015.

Dennett has also been a referee at the highest level in B.C. and all these factors combine to make him an excellent choice to lead the junior team, said Rod Wood who retired as GM of both clubs but remains as the vicepresident and governor.

The Junior Shamrocks will be looking for a new head coach as Nirmal Dillon stepped down from his position this week.

“We would like to thank Nirmal for his devotion to the team over his tenure and wish him all the best in the future,” said Wood, who added Dennett will begin his search for a replacement.

The Junior Shamrocks finished the regular season at 14-6-1 and in second place before losing out in three straight games to the Delta Islanders in the playoffs, dropping 14-6, 7-6 and 11-7 results.
