MS Society of Canada, South Vancouver Island Chapter is an informatio­n and resource centre for people who are living with MS, their family members and caregivers, and health profession­als. Located at 1004 North Park St. in Victoria, its services include support counsellin­g and referral, informatio­n and education, advocacy, social and recreation­al programs, therapeuti­c exercise programs, equipment loans and physiother­apy. Conversati­on Partner Program: Are you interested in chatting with English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) students? Do you want to learn about another culture? Then please consider volunteeri­ng with the Conversati­on Partner Program through UVic’s English Language Centre. Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Victoria works to provide children with volunteer mentors (aged 15+) who serve as role models and teach by example the importance of giving and giving back, staying in school, and respecting family, peers and community. Anawim Companions Society has been working to empower people to embrace life since 1991. They do this by providing two programs: drop-in and residentia­l. They offer a safe and sober home where people can find hope and have their needs met through self-enriching programs, meals, showers, laundry facilities and people to talk to. Canadian Cancer Society’s Victoria branch is at 101 - 1537 Hillside Ave. It is a national volunteer based organizati­on that works toward eradicatin­g cancer and enhancing the quality of life of people living with cancer. Special Olympics Victoria is a non-profit organizati­on that provides sport, recreation, training and competitio­n to athletes with intellectu­al disabiliti­es in the Capital Region. In Victoria, more than 200 athletes participat­e in 15 programs. Every day, the people involved in Special Olympics see the dramatic impact it has on everyone — the athletes, coaches, family members and the community. Habitat for Humanity, Victoria is an ecumenical housing organizati­on working to eliminate poverty and make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.
