Relative charged with manslaughter in Surrey death
SURREY — A charge of aggravated assault has been upgraded to manslaughter after an argument between two family members in Surrey resulted in a man’s death.
RCMP Staff Sgt. Jennifer Pound said the 32-year-old victim suffered a head injury on May 2 and was transported to hospital by a relative.
Pound said a skull fracture required emergency surgery, and the patient was released from hospital a week later.
But on Thursday, the victim was taken back to hospital with life-threatening bleeding in his brain and died on Sunday.
Pound said 29-year-old Mandeep Bhatti was arrested at the scene after the argument and initially charged with aggravated assault.
