Enough is enough — tent city exit plan needed

-

Re: “Tent city taps into drinking water, will get flush toilets,” May 14.

While standing in line at the grocery store, I heard someone comment aloud their outrage on the installation of running water to the tent city.

Like many others, I’m very unhappy that the campers, transients and homeless people who continue to trespass and usurp publicly held property are being given even more amenities. I live by the courthouse and have witnessed the increased construction and resulting destruction of the oncegreen space.

There seems no plan for the removal of this growing group of trespassers. The mess, noise, smells and the general sense of chaos and mayhem continue to disturb the neighbourhood. I want the campers, city officials, the court and the province to know that many ordinary citizens find it outrageous that more services are being provided to further entrench the tent city. I wish I heard of an exit plan for those who want housing versus the continuation of this shanty town. Mike Kinch Victoria

?? ?? Public sympathy for Victoria’s tent city is fading away, if today’s commentaries are any guide. The spread of crime, drug use, dirt and violence is unacceptable, they say, while the installation of running water, showers and flush toilets is outrageous.
