There is nothing good about surge in crime

-

Re: “Police calls round tent city surge,” May 15.

So Kathy Stinson, head of the Cool Aid Society, thinks it’s a “good thing” that people living near the tent city have been calling the police 46 per cent more than they did the year before.

There is no “good thing” in the increase in calls to report violence, drugs, stabbings, threats, assaults and public disgraces including needles and human feces all over the place. And to be clear, when I call the police, I am not calling over “concern for the well-being of campers.” I’m concerned for my family, my friends and my neighbours who live this daily nightmare.

Does the board of directors of Cool Aid think it’s a “good thing” that this horrible behaviour and crime is going on around the tent city? Do the donors who support their society endorse these comments?

The board is on record as wanting the tent city to stay put until something better comes along. With a huge spike in crime around this area, I’d like to know if the Cool Aid board still thinks this is such a good thing.

To be clear, we don’t. Jack Boomer Victoria
