Sheffield Wednesday closes in on return to Premiership

BRIGHTON, England — Sheffield Wednesday is one win away from playing in the English Premier League for the first time since 2000 after reaching the playoff final in the second-tier League Championship on Monday.

Sheffield Wednesday drew at Brighton 1-1, and won their two-leg series 3-1 on aggregate.

Brighton finished the regular season 15 points ahead of Wednesday.

Wednesday will play either Derby or Hull in the playoff final at Wembley Stadium on May 28. Hull leads 3-0 after the first leg.
