Canadian PGA star coming to Bear Mountain

Event will take place during Pacific Links Championship

-

One of Canada’s regulars on the PGA Tour, who was also one of two representatives at the recent Summer Olympics, will be in Victoria on Sept. 24, to play host to a junior clinic at the 2016 Pacific Links Bear Mountain Golf Championship.

Graham DeLaet, of Weyburn, Sask. — who finished 20th at the Rio Games and is known as one of the best ball strikers on tour — will be at the Westin Bear Mountain Golf Resort on Day 2 of next week’s PGA Tour Champions event.

“I am excited to come back to Victoria to be part of the Pacific Links Bear Mountain Championship junior clinic,” DeLaet, who formerly played on the Mackenzie Tour-PGA Tour Canada, said in a statement. “I have always been a big supporter of golf at the grassroots level and believe that it is important to introduce the game to kids so they can start learning the sport early, and we can ultimately grow the game of golf in Canada.

“This should be a really fun day for the kids — I am looking forward to it,” added DeLaet, who will also represent Canada at the World Cup of Golf in November.

Junior golfers (aged 17 and under) will receive free admission into the tournament (Sept. 21-25), as well as free admission to the junior clinic on Sept. 24, when accompanied by a paying/ticketed adult.

The juniors have the opportunity to receive instruction and mentorship from DeLaet during the clinic, presented by the Greenard Group, and then participate in an autograph session with PGA Tour Champions professionals and watch the legends of the game practice and play during the Saturday round.
