Cupid spotted in Sidney! Love is in the air!

Fall in love with Sidney this Valentine’s season. Join us for memorable events, family fun and the Victoria Film Festival, all in downtown Sidney.

- SUSAN SIMOSKO BY PRESIDENT, SIDNEY BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT AREA SOCIETY

On February 11, Sidney businesses will share the love with their muchvalued customers by featuring an all day celebration, offering unique products, warm and friendly service, and a whole lot of sweet old fashioned fun. From the whimsical to the tender, from the practical to the lovely, Sidney merchants, restaurants, and cafes want to surprise and satisfy! As part of the celebration, customers have a chance to win one of three outstanding prizes: spa treatments, roses from Brown’s

the Florist, and treats from Roger’s Chocolates. Locate the roaming cherub on the day to enter! (We said it would be fun!) Just look for the I Love Sidney icon in store windows to identify participating merchants.

Leading up to this event, customers can enter the name of a special man in their lives for a complete makeover, all sponsored by Sidney retailers and stylists. To enter your special guy, send a text to 250-893-0093 or e-mail (info@distinctlysidney.ca) with a 100-word description of why your man deserves to win with a full-length picture of him in everyday attire. Attend the winner-announcement party that night at Victoria Distillers (right on the Sidney waterfront, must be present to win) where you can enjoy custommade cocktails, live music and lively conversation.

For kids of all ages, enjoy Sidney’s Family-Day weekend full of love and fun for three solid days. Sidney’s famous LEGO® brick festival runs Feb. 11 – 13 with restaurants, cafes and businesses putting out their welcome mats for families. With “Agriculture” as the theme, Robin Slater, Canada’s only LEGO® professional will construct a sixfoot LEGO® tractor at the Mary Winspear Centre (MWC). The Sidney Museum offers an extraordinary LEGO® display and also serves as the starting point for the traditional LEGO® scavenger hunt. The Shaw Centre for the Salish Sea features an underwater LEGO® event and the Pier Hotel hosts an intricate LEGO® display sponsored by VicLUG. On Monday, Feb. 13, the action continues at the MWC with a LEGO® play area and a community open house where families can learn about the many activities available to young people and families in the Sidney area. With thanks to Peninsula Co-op and Van Isle Marina, this Family Day weekend is shaping up to be the ultimate family event!

And for anyone who loves film, remember to check out the Victoria Film Festival presented at Star Cinema in Sidney between February 4 and 9.
