Many industries change without compensati­on

Re: “Uber by ‘Christmas’ sparks cab backlash,” March 8.

I see no reason why those in the taxi business who actively supported a government­sanctioned monopoly should expect compensati­on.

They made a business decision to pay “completely out-of-line amounts,” and as with any business when the model changes, prices adjust accordingl­y. Many benefit, others lose.

The consumer benefits with greater availabili­ty of transport at a lower cost, the taxi-owner loses. Such events are not unique to any business and happen on a daily basis.
