Give damaged goods new life at Repair Café in Fairfield

-

Don’t throw out that damaged but still-useful household item.

Take it to get repaired for free at the Fairfield Repair Café on Saturday.

You can watch and also help with the repair, done by volunteers, so you learn how to fix the same item the next time.

Or you can just sit back and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee.

Items people can bring include electrical appliances, clothing, furniture, crockery, housewares, bicycles, toys, mobile phones and tablets, hearing aids, just to name a few.

If you want to be certain that someone will be available to help mend a particular item, check the group’s Facebook page a few days prior to the event or send an email.

Please don’t bring large appliances such as stoves or refrigerators.

The Repair Café is part of an international movement that got its start in 2009 in a theatre in Amsterdam.

The Repair Café Foundation was created in 2011. There are now more than 1,100 cafés in 27 countries, spread across six continents.

All repairs are done for free. The event runs 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Fairfield Community Place, 1330 Fairfield Rd. Due to the Moss Street Market, which runs at the same time, car parking is limited around Fairfield Community Place.

Consider riding a bike, walking or taking the bus instead. For more information, email repaircafefairfield@gmail.com or go to their Facebook page.
